Travel Essentials
When you are travelling abroad, particularly for a length of time, you need a number of things to make your travel legal, safe, and as enjoyable as possible. Here are some essentials.
Passport
Obviously it goes without saying. Passports are essential to travel to different countries, and are the minimum requirement for UK citizens to head abroad. It is recommended that passports have six months validity before travelling, and it can take upto six weeks to obtain. So be sure to have it upto date.
Travel Insurance
Travel Insurance is essential in many countries abroad that don't have an NHS-like system. Most healthcare abroad is paid for, and Travel Insurance helps cover the cost of it. Be sure you get insurance that covers what you wish to do (for example, if you're on a Ski Break).
European Health Insurance Card
The EHIC is a EU initiative that allows EU residents subsidized or even free state based treatment within the EU and certain other European Countries. Even so, you'd still should take travel insurance.
Visas
Travel Visas are not required to visit a number countries for UK citizens (such as the US, Canada, and the EU), but outside the EU, visas may be required. Also, with North American countries there are certain limits for travelling there. Check before you travel, as an invalid visa or terms means your holiday will be cut very brief.
